WORLD WAR II

SAS LRDG & IEROS LOCHOS

British SAS LRDG (Long Range Desert Groups), were established in Egypt, in 1940 and consisted of British, Australians and New Zealanders. IEROS LOCHOS (Greek Special Forces Unit), joined the British SAS LRDG forces, under the command of Colonel Tsigantes. They were conducting saboteur missions, deep in the desert, behind the German enemy lines, using WILLYS MB Jeeps. The WILLYS MB Jeeps, were carrying heavy artillery and ammunition, as well as supplies, in order to be able to remain in the desert, for extended periods of time. In 1943 they crossed over to Europe, where they continued the operations, until the end the war (1945).

KOREAN WAR

UNITED NATIONS ARMY - GREEK EXPEDITIONARY FORCE IN KOREA

On June 25 1950, the North Korean army, equipped by the Soviet Union and with the participation of the Chinese Army, invaded South Korea. Following the request for assistance made by South Korea to the UN (United Nations), 53 countries decided to provide their support. 26 countries participated in the UN Army Force, including Greece. The Greek forces consisted of 1000 infantry soldiers and 9 C-47 Αircrafs and took part indifficult combats. The war lasted until July 1953, with millions of casualties between the rivals at war, dividing the country, at the 38th parallel, to North and South Korea.

VIETNAM WAR

AMERICAN ARMY & VIET CONG ARMY

The Vietnam War, was a large armed conflict, between the West and the East, during the Cold War. In theory, the war was fought between the Democratic Army of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). In reality, it was a war via representatives, between USA and USSR, although USSR was not directly involved in any military action. US soldiers were already involved since 1959, but actually arrived in large numbers in 1965. The American army departed in 1973, which eventually led to the surrender of South Vietnam, to North Vietnam, on April 30, 1975.
